How to Create a Unicorn Horn Flower Crown

Due to the fact that who should need to decide between a flower crown and a unicorn horn? Kaia actually wished to wear both for her Birthday, and this is what I wound up with.

When she initially told me she wished to be a unicorn for her Birthday celebration, I started poking around the Web, attempting to figure something out. I was actually dissatisfied with what I found. I didn't desire her to be encumbered by a big, hot, large costume for her indoor celebration. When she wanted to play, I desired something she could don on her own. I didn't desire a modeling clay horn hung on with an "invisible" flexible band. These just do not appear practical to me for a young kid. I desired a horn that would go on quickly and conveniently, one that was light-weight, was not fragile, and would remain in place well on her head while she cantered around your home extremely, rearing and jumping. Due to the fact that you know that is exactly what is going to happen when you position a unicorn horn on a 4 year old. (Omygosh, she's practically 4!) I think I in fact achieved all of these requirements I set myself, and I am really pleased with how the entire thing came together, (and so is she!).

When I made the horn, I was thinking I would experiment a bit, start figuring things out. I didn't anticipate to be happy with the first thing I twiddled with, so I'm stuck with no pictures. I made a paper model in order to do this tutorial. Not the most beautiful pictures, however hopefully they a minimum of make the procedure easy to see.

You will need:.

Craft Felt in Different Colours.
Packing.
Sewing Thread and Needle.
Extra Strong Quilting Thread.
Small Length of Elastic.
Headband.
Hot glue.
Scissors.
Plastic Gems.
Material Leaves (Or Make Felt Leaves).

I used sparkly white craft felt for her horn. Aside from the reality that it is, obviously, sparkly, the sparkle felt is rather a bit stiffer. Leave the bottom open.

Make it a good, big knot, you do not desire it to pull through the felt once there is tension on it. Run the thread out near the idea of the horn from within. Stuff the horn as tightly as you can, I used polyfill stuffing.

Start covering the thread down the horn in a spiral, tightly enough to leave a good indent. Connect your thread off inside, near the bottom of the horn. Place your horn on another piece of matching felt, trace the bottom circle, and cut it out.

Starting from the within, cover stitches around the edges of your felt, sewing the circle to the bottom of the horn, and tie it off. Aim to conceal your knot inside, or a minimum of away from the edge.

I attached it to a good, large, cloth-covered headband that we discovered at a dollar store. To do so, measure a piece of flexible around the center of the headband to obtain your length, then make it a bit smaller sized so that it will stretch snugly into location. Stitch the flexible ends together to form a loop. Stitch the elastic to the bottom of the horn. Make sure to sew the flexible all the method to the edges of the horn, or the base will bring up at the front and back. Also make sure that the seam holding the flexible together gets stitched to the horn, this way it will end up on top of the headband, instead of as an unpleasant swelling versus your child's head.

Your unicorn horn is complete! Like magic, the paper horn all of a sudden changes into a genuine one! Oh, wait ... * ehem * Anyhow, once on the headband, I added a little hot glue under the edges of the horn to help keep it from wobbling any. I believe this would be corrected using a wider rubber band than what I occurred to have on hand, though.

Hot glue the material leaves down either side of the headband, overlapping a little and alternating direction. Cut a variety of flowers out of the coloured felt. (Idea: Your other half might get a little irritable if you attempt to do this in bed, stick look what I found to reading a book.) I honestly believe layering has the most significant effect on how great they come out looking. I used hot glue to fix the layers together. I've no concept how well hot glue deals with wool felt, however it works amazingly on eco felt. I believe the heat actually fuses the layers together to a degree. For the big yellow flower, I just cut a lot of strips of felt, folded them in half, then added them entirely by their ends with a little thread.

Hot glue the flowers all over the headband, then hot glue the plastic gems to the. Make certain to overlap the base of the horn a bit and cover up the elastic band. You are the proud brand-new owner of a unicorn horn flower crown!

I had a really tough time keeping her still long enough to take any pictures ...

Her rainbow unicorn tail is now complete, too, and I have a full blown unicorn galloping around your home all the time. Find that tutorial here. By the way, it would be truly simple to stick a couple ears in there amidst the flowers. Inning accordance with Kaia, nevertheless, she currently has 2 ears and didn't desire anymore. (Do not take a look at me ... she uses a lot of other animal ears, my reasoning does not often have much effect on her, however.).

Since you understand that is exactly what is going to take place when you position a unicorn horn on a 4 year old. When I made the horn, I was believing I would experiment a bit, begin figuring things out. Make sure that the joint holding the flexible together gets stitched to the horn, this method it will end up on top of the headband, rather of as an uneasy swelling versus your kid's head.

Make sure to overlap the base of the horn a bit and cover up the flexible band. You are the happy brand-new owner of a unicorn horn flower crown!
